Opening Doors: Community Responds with Compassion to Refugee Resettlement

There has been such an amazing outpouring of love and support around the Refugee Resettlement Ministry. Even though the Town Hall was only announced 1 week in advance, there were around 100 attendees who were extremely supportive and wanting to know how to get involved with this important work.

There were extremely intelligent questions asked with some people having great understanding of how the resettlement program works. There was some concern before the Town Hall when we became aware of the fact that the State Refugee Coordinator, Bojana Zoric-Martinez, had received death threats after protests in Eau Claire late last year. We contacted the Sheboygan Police Department and proceeded with our in person event.

God certainly blessed our event greatly when the very first question asked was “how can I get involved?” All of the comments showed how caring and compassionate our community is. Even those who might not be supportive of our efforts were very respectful and truly listened to the information provided by our panel of individuals directly impacted by the refugee resettlement program. God be praised for an uplifting and welcoming event!
